"When I'm looking at my deadlines, why does my project show up more than once?"

Projects are the grant applications and deadlines are anything with a due date, including projects.

So, if you have an Action to attend a webinar for the Delta Dental Grant, then both the Action (webinar) AND the Project (Delta Dental Grant) are going to be listed under Deadlines.

If you switch over to Projects view, you will only see the project's due date, but not the actions associated with it.
